Understanding Roast Levels First
Before comparing blends, it helps to know what "roast level" actually changes. As beans roast, sugars caramelize and oils develop — this is the Maillard reaction at work. Light roasts are pulled early, before much oil surfaces, preserving brighter, more origin-driven flavor. Dark roasts stay in longer, building bolder, smokier notes and a heavier body. Medium roasts sit in between.
One thing roast level does not reliably change much: caffeine. Contrary to popular belief, light and dark roasts contain roughly the same caffeine by weight — the difference in your cup comes from flavor, not stimulation, with the sole exception of our Decaf, which has caffeine removed entirely (more on that below).

What's the difference between a light, medium, and dark roast?
Roast time and temperature. Light roasts are pulled earliest and taste brighter and more origin-driven; dark roasts stay in the roaster longest and develop bolder, smokier, heavier-bodied flavor. Medium roasts land in between. It's a flavor spectrum, not a quality ranking.
Does a darker roast have more caffeine?
No — roast level doesn't meaningfully change caffeine content by weight. The one exception in our lineup is Decaf, which has had its caffeine removed via the Mountain Water Process.
Which Hunter's Blend roast should a beginner try first?
